Is there a separate English language for Slack, Notion, and YouTube?! With TELLA CEO Jin Yu-ha
2024-10-14

Platform English

‍
Just plain non-contact. The era of non-face-to-face meetings has arrived. A non-face-to-face culture has already been established in every corner of our lives and in various fields. The same goes for the English education market. <플랫폼 잉글리시>I began to <텔라> pay attention to the English chat service, which is growing day by day following the non-contact boom, and I met CEO Jin Yu-ha, the CEO of Tela and the author of a bestseller.

I hope you can get some insight through the introduction of the interview, and I'll check out the contents of the interview~

<플랫폼 잉글리시>Q. We invited the artist Jin Yu-ha <텔라>, the representative of the chat language education service and the author of the book. Please introduce yourself briefly.
: I'm Jin Yu-ha, and I run an <텔라> English chat service called Hello. Externally, he is known as the representative, but it's new because he called him the artist. Thank you

Q. This year's book was selected as a top 100 best seller <플랫폼 잉글리시> on YES24 for 2 weeks. <플랫폼 잉글리시>What kind of book is it?
: This is <텔라> a practical business book published based on operations. It is a book that introduces various examples of text-based English usage in an unconnected situation, and in particular, I want it to be a dictionary-like book that can be used simultaneously for learning and using English on digital platforms that can actually be used in business, such as YouTube, Udemy, and Cosera, and in terms of self-development.

<플랫폼 잉글리시>Please tell me about the concept of the term Q.
<플랫폼 잉글리시>The concept: appears in the book. <텔라>Before this book came out into the world, one of the publisher's editors was a service user. There are various methodologies for studying English, right? <플랫폼 잉글리시>Among them, I made a suggestion about what it would be like to publish a book using a work tool that I actually use, and I came to define this <텔라> book using the concept that the service promotes English learning through chat and is consistent even when it is about to be published.

Q. This book presents specific usage tips and examples for a total of 13 tools, from emails that are frequently used in practice, to Slack, Notion, and TypeForm.

It was really nice that it even showed me how to use what kind of comments, and in what situations, What are some tips for doing well when you need to communicate using a foreign language with these various work tools?
: There are many examples of using English on platforms in this book. Since it's a case-oriented book, I also hoped it would be a book that I could pull out and use in everyday situations at any time in my work space. If you're not in an environment where you're exposed to English right away, I think it would be a good idea to look at each chapter and use it when needed.

Q. Please recommend some frequently used expressions when commenting on Slack, email, or YouTube.

Q. What kind of service is TELLA?
: An English conversation service that starts with a chat. More specifically, it's an educational service for learning English conversation by chatting 1:1 with a native tutor. It is a service where all English and sentences are corrected in real time while chatting with a tutor.

Q. Tela is a chat-based service, but is the style close to colloquial or written?
: I think our service puts a little more weight on painting. However, since there are thousands of learning units, they also use a lot of written language depending on specific situations and purposes, such as business. Ultimately, the focus is on communication, so I'd say it's a bit closer to colloquial language.

Q. If you look at our Gicon Studio service users, it is said that many people use translators when chatting with foreigners. Translator usage know-how that can be applied when chattingIs there one?
: I usually do initial translation in situations where I need to do translation, and I especially use a translator when I need to use a foreign language such as Japanese that I'm unfamiliar with. Taking the Gicon Studio translator as an example, there is a part where the 3 translators are compared and modified, so I use it usefully. It's also helpful to be able to check each sentence and paragraph. There are specific expressions unique to machine translators when translating, so I think it's helpful to refer to that structure first.

Q. Please recommend a word engraved in your heart.
: Grit (Grit). The expression I often hear around me is “It held up well,” and I think I really sympathize with it these days.

It was a year where the value that comes from accumulated personal experiences was expressed, and I also learned a lot that holding on is a winner.
I hope that both you and I will hold on and move forward while experiencing explosive growth with “grit.”

I was very impressed by TELA CEO Jin Yu-ha, which contains actual business English expressions, as a <플랫폼 잉글리시> practical book that specifically describes what comments and how to use them appropriately in work tools such as Slack, Notion, and Email. Also, the tella service sends visual materials or specific information via email/messenger and records them, and since they communicate via text, I thought there might be an advantage of adding more objective and logical strength in the communication process. You can check out the video of the interview, which captures the atmosphere of the scene, via the link below!
