Gcone interview 🤓
Hello reporter, I'm honored to meet you like this! I think you've won a lot about the episode where you won 2 Pulitzer Primes and the episode where you worked for the LA Times, Associated Press, and the White House in the US on Other Awards.
A STORY THAT HELPS PEOPLE WITH THEIR OWN CONTENT TO BREAKDOWN LANGUAGE ON THE GLOBAL STAGEI'm sharing it with you. The Reporter Actually Spoke Korean or English without interruption photoI think you've built up a variety of varieties through the content called. I have a lot of questions, but I'll pick a few questions and ask them.
Q. Why were you able to win the Pulitzer Prize twice?
Reporter Kang Hyung-won: I think it's because I used a difficult strategy with my attitude.
First Pulitzer PrizeOur team's content won an award based on coverage of the LA Riots in '92. The incident occurred in Koreatown at the time, and unlike other local incidents who had problems in language or culture (I) am Korean, I was able to quickly understand the overall local situation. I think the honesty for such a quick and accurate reporting (and that part) was considered and appreciated as an honor called the Pulitzer Prize. (+LA Times Reporter of the Year Award)
Second Pulitzer PrizeI was presented the award for the sexual scandal of former US President Clinton, and a few years later I also worked as a reporter reported under the White House (because of the relationship at that time).
In any situation, I think the part about storytelling the situation with photos was a judging point.
Q. Are there many differences in language thinking between Korean and English?
Reporter Kang Hyung-won: Korean is an excellent language. The writing skills are also gorgeous. In particular, it is rated as the most popular language in the world for American diplomats to learn. However, if I just translate expressions and thoughts from Korean into English, I sometimes laugh and don't make sense. because the way of thinking in Korean culture and the way of thinking in English culture are quite different, do you think and see the same things happen? <사진으로 보는 우리 문화유산>In the One I wrote Korean cultural history and culture from a Korean perspective, and English from an English-speaking perspectiveI did. This is not a translation 🙂
For example, if you look at the data, there is a record that it took less than 20 days for the Warring Forces from Busan to Seoul during the Imjin War in 1592. When I express this It was likened to “cutting tofu with a knife” as being difficult to Seoul, but in English, “like cutting butter with a hot knife.”If you express it like that, it's much more difficult.
Q. Please tell me about <사진으로 보는 우리 문화유산> books you have recently written.
Reporter Kang Hyung-won: Photography is humanity's first common language. I used to paint when I didn't have a camera, and before painting, I engraved rock carvings on stones. 21c's most effective communication language is photographyThis is it. The way to communicate is in all languages. As a person who has worked in the US all my life as a photographer, I thought that I should promote Korean history and culture to other cultures, and make content from the English cultural knowledge world in a way that makes a first impression with impressions and allows people to click and search for content from the English cultural world.

Q. Do people in the US understand the old Korean culture?
Reporter Kang Hyung-won: Most local people in the US don't know about the ancient nature of Korean civilization and the fact that an outstanding nation has lived in Korea for years. The significance of Korean culture is too much even with objective information from the English-language cultural sphereYes If Western Civilization led the current stage of scientific thinking through industrialization over the past two to 300 years, before that, an ancient civilization that was unique in its own way and invented according to the situation and times made it into the center of East Asia, a Korean civilization, and no one knows about this. 🤔
Where are you going who are U? When I say, my name is also a name, but “I'm Korean.” <사진으로 보는 우리 문화유산>As a reminder, I wrote Visual History of Korea to make up for the fact that there isn't much content that can be called “KOREA is and was ~” in English culture. This book root Talks as a content that talks about Korean culture and history while writing columns and showing photos for nearly 3 yearsIt's done.
Q. What skills do evangelists need to publicize my content?
* 🤓 Dispatchers: People who share their content in various ways.
Reporter Kang Hyung-won: I think 21c's Evangelist is a nuisance. The basis of evangelism is the role of exchanging facts and truthAnd this is journalism. There's nothing false about photography. To become a 21C, you must always have the virtue VeracityIt means you have to have it. What if Honesty in correcting misinformation as soon as it's made. High Expectation That Talks About One's Own Transgressions Without Hesitation. When these values and virtues are perfused, I can say that propagandists are playing a proper role in any society.
Q. Are you active in Visual History of Korea? Please consider it.
Reporter Kang Hyung-won: Sometimes things that still happen in the 21st century <사진>SHOW OUR UNIQUE CONTENT EXTERNALLY AND EXPLAIN ITS meaningI'm doing it. For example, when showing content created by taking a picture of a shovel dog,
”When I discovered the genome of this shovel dog, the genome of an ancient dog raised by humans 10,000 years ago came from this shovel dog”
If you explain it, people who read it”Wow, there's still a 10,000 year old dog in Korea. So isn't the civilization called Korea a civilization connected by people who believed 10,000 years ago?Wouldn't it be possible to draw the thought”?
I use this way of storytelling to help readers and viewers understand.
<사진으로 보는 우리 문화 유산>Book p.122
Q. Out of the tens of millions of photos you've taken, which one do you love the most?
Reporter Kang Hyung-won: I'm talking about cutting all but one of the ten fingers... 😅 From photos I've taken over 40 years Three Once-in-a-Lifetime Sons Growing UpInhina, A president presented with only the world's most difficult problemsIna, there are so many important photos, but so far There is no such thing as the “best” picture I think so. I am surprised that photos I take in the future will be better than the ones I have taken so far. (Even though I've received two Pulitzer Prizes - Editor's Note) I don't think I've taken the most important picture of my life yet.

Q. As someone who loves our culture, I would like to ask my juniors
Reporter Kang Hyung-won: Weeks, there are too many ideas in Korean society where critical thinking (critical thinking) is excluded.
Without reviewing it very well When various historical details that were accepted as facts are logically considered and properly interpreted with scientific thinking, our view of history clearly clear, our notable rises based on a clear view of history, and Korea is an amazing civilization no matter what language we express it with a difficult identityI think we can come to that difficult.
I thought we would become the masters of our culture when we confidently tried to teachers who were during the Japanese era about arguing as it was without critical thinking, and with the suffering of unlearning and relearning and updating it againI will.
* 🤓 Unlearn: It Means Forgetting All Past Knowledge and Habits and Starting Anew
What I can say with confidence is that Korean civilization and culture are not marginal civilizations and cultures. Since it's a central civilization and culture in world history, accept that fact and have confidence, this is how we do it in Korea!
Is there anything we can learn from other cultures, oh, Korean people are smart, they are clever when we show confidence? To be able to have this idea A role full of confidence that allows us to stretch our strength and confidently talk about the content of our culture anywhereI would like you to do it.
